Restoration Ecology Field Trip

Restoration Ecology Field Trip

There is so much more to restoration ecology than meets the eye. It is a lot a work to bring ruined land back to it's original form. I was so glad to be a part of that experience even if I only helped a little.

One of the largest parts of restoration ecology is removing any toxins in the area,
whether that's plants or animals.
At the end of the three hour work, we actually mad a lot of progress.
I didn't think we could do that much. Even with all the cuts on my legs
from clearing this area, I had an awesome experience, and it made me feel good, too.
We got to see a few of the inhabitants of this area. Seeing these animals
thrive in their natural environment made what we were doing a lot
more valuable. We got to help keeps these animals' homes alive.
Another part of the restoration was collecting very valuable seeds.
After collecting these ting seeds, we went out to plant them
to help regrow the wetland area.
The last thing that we did to restore this area, was plant more seeds. This plain
above is very barren of it's necessary plants. We helped fill in the gaps
of this field with the seeds in that red bucket.
In the end this was truly a remarkable experience. It was definitely worth it. Even though it doesn't seem like we do a lot, it's better for us to do something than nothing. It is so important to this world to make sure we do more help than harm or else humans will pay the price. Restoration ecology is a step in the right direction.
